Natalie makes an unscheduled arrival

Natalie (our first child) made a surprise entry into the world today. I'd only gone to the hospital for a guided tour of the special care baby unit in the afternoon, in case we ended up needing their services because Mum was already in hospital with high blood pressure. But within the hour we were in the delivery unit being advised that it was in the best interests of both Mum and the baby to deliver her now! So Natalie Rose was delivered by cesarean section at just 32 weeks. Weighting just 1.25Kg (2lbs 12oz) she started breathing of her own accord, and immediately started bawling loudly! Quite an afternoon.

Here she is just over an hour after being born. She needs special care because she is so small, but she appears to be healthy. She is breathing herself, but is being helped by a positive air pressure supply to help her little lungs get enough oxygen in.
